Vintage
A very dry winter was followed by a hot January which segued into a dry, mild conclusion to vintage. Small crops of both whites and reds were the result of dry conditions in winter and the preceding 3-4 years. In the case of the red varieties, the longer you waited for them the better they got.
Winemaking
The War of the Rosé was made to be a rosé and not a ‘Saigneé’ style; that is the grapes were picked on flavour for a rosé wine and NOT a dry red, then pressed off skins. We were ruthless, and only pressed off about 400 litres/ tonne, to make sure there were no hard phenolics in the wine. The wine underwent a very cool ferment in stainless steel prior to bottling. The War of the Rosé is a dry style of Rosé.
Tasting Notes
With a nose of watermelon rind and red fruits, the War of the Rosé has a balanced, even palate with bright focused acidity, wonderful length and is utterly delicious.
